Our standards

We try to:

use the most precise city, town, village, neighbourhood, district and venue name available;
distinguish Wakefield city from Pontefract, Castleford, Normanton, Ossett, Horbury, Featherstone, Knottingley, Hemsworth and the other district settlements;
distinguish Wakefield Council from West Yorkshire and neighbouring authorities;
identify the exact geography of Westgate, Kirkgate, the two stations, Wakefield Waterfront, Belle Vue, Pinderfields, Glasshoughton and the A1/M1/M62 corridors;
distinguish ordinary-day travel from matchday, race-day, event and countryside conditions;
check live information against official or first-party sources;
identify opinion, sponsored content, affiliate content and advertising clearly;
avoid unsupported rankings, stereotypes and claims about communities;
use first-hand experience only where it genuinely happened;
correct material errors promptly;
treat businesses, residents and contributors fairly.

We do not turn West Yorkshire or Yorkshire and the Humber into Wakefield-only facts. We do not describe Leeds, Bradford, Barnsley, Doncaster, York or South Yorkshire venues as Wakefield venues by default. We do not flatten the district’s towns, villages, former coalfield communities and rural areas into one generic local area.
